Ganguly was posted in the District Investigation Unit and was handling four cases only, while an officer posted in the DIU usually handles 20-25 cases, said a senior police officer.

The DCP of the South East District Romil Baaniya, along with other senior police officials, visited family members who requested them to probe the case.

The Inspector was found dead around 6 pm inside the toilet on the first floor of the CR Park police station.

His post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow, police said.

He was issued a show cause notice on March 19 after he refused to be a part of security arrangements for the Jat agitation, that was later called off, said another official.
