Kathua attack: 2 terrorists killed, 3 security personnel lose their lives

Two terrorists, who were members of a fidayeen squad which had infiltrated, were also killed in the subsequent encounter with security forces that ended around noon. This is the first major militant attack in the state since the formation of the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state on March 1. Police officers said a group of two militants of a 'fidayeen' squad stormed Rajbagh Police Station in the wee hours and opened indiscriminate fire.
"It is a fidayeen attack," IGP Jammu Danish Rana said. "Two militants have been killed. Operation has ended. Besides two CRPF men, a policeman also died in the encounter", Rana told reporters in Kathua.Earlier, police had said that a total of six persons, including two militants, were killed in the attack. He said 11 people, including a Dy SP, were injured. They have been hospitalised.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh gave a statement in the Lok Sabha. He lauded the forces for their swift reaction and expressed his condolences to the deceased.
According to reports, encounter has ended and security forces have killed 2 terrorists. They are suspected to belong to LeT.
Politicians have roundly condemned this attack
According to latest reports, two people including one policeman have been killed in the gun battle. Security forces have managed to kill one terrorist but 2-3 more are still present in the police station.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said the militants who carried out a Fidayeen attack on a police station in Rajbagh area of Kathua district came from across the border.
Omar said the attack was carried out on the past pattern. "These Fidayeen will have walked across the border last night and launched their attack this morning which is the past pattern as well," Omar said on his twitter account. Home Ministry is monitoring the situation and Home Secretary has called up the state DG to take stock of the situation.
