Finally breaking the silence on the ongoing unrest in Kashmir, Europe on Thursday expressed grief over the killings of civilians in the state.

The European Union (EU) urged for calm and maintenance of law and order in the state. The EU spokesperson Michael Mann said, "We express our condolences to the families of the victims and the many injured during the latest outbreak of violence in Kashmir.”

He also added, "The restoration of calm, and maintaining law and order with the necessary restraint, are vital to guarantee the safety and security of the people of Kashmir.”  

Commenting on EU's stand on Kashmir, Mann said that India and Pakistan should also involve the Kashmiri people who are representative of the state's voice in the dialogue process. he added, "It is a longstanding position of the EU to support the reconciliation process between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, particularly through dialogue, and to call for the Kashmiri people themselves to be as involved."

The spokesperson also added that EU continues to monitor he situation in Kashmir and is in constant touch wit the authorities in India and Pakistan.
