A gun battle between two militants and security forces in Sopore town in North Kashmir ended today, prompting the police to launch a search for militants who could have died during the encounter.

The gun battle had broken out yesterday evening, and ended this morning. "We are searching the bodies of the militants," superintendent of police, Sopore, Altaf Ahmad Khan told PTI.

He said he will be able to give concrete information about casualties among the militants only after the search is completed.

The gun battle erupted when police was fired upon by the two militants, who had taken shelter in a house at Khanday filling station near Sopore bus stand last evening.
