Today is Karva Chauth, an occasion where married women in northern India are seen fasting from sunrise to moonrise for their husband's long life and well-being. 'Karva ' means earthen pots while 'chauth' means the fourth day. Karva Chauth is celebrated on the fourth day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar.

Married women, as well as their husbands (these days), observe this fast for each other. Many unmarried girls are also seen observing a fast. The rituals begin by the women eating sargi, pre-dawn meal prepared by their mother-in-law and then setting out on a fast till moonrise.

In the evening, a puja is organised where women exchange earthen pots filled with sweets, bangles and clothes. Check out the puja timings.
