Amid drama over Karnataka government formation, the Congress party and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have planned to embarrass the Governors of Goa and Bihar states respectively by asking them to let the grand old party form the government, citing the example of what happened in Karnataka.

Referring to the decision of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala to invite the BJP to form the government after the Assembly election results were declared on Wednesday, the Congress party has said that Goa Governor should follow the precedent set by her Karnataka counterpart and invite the single largest party to form the government "correcting her mistake of March 12, 2017".

The BJP, which emerged as the single largest party with 104 seats in the 222-member Karnataka Assembly, was invited by the governor despite the JD(S)-Congress combine staking claim by citing the support of 117 MLAs. The majority mark is 112 seats.

All 16 Goa Congress MLAs will march to Raj Bhavan calling on Governor tomorrow to stake a claim for government formation claiming to be the single largest party.

"Kindly grant an appointment to meet with you as early as possible but not later than 10.00 am tomorrow i.e. 18.05.2018 regarding the present state of affairs in Goa and submit  to you a memorandum." Congress Legislature Party chief Chandrakant Kavlekar said in a letter to Governor Mridula Sinha.

In the Assembly elections held in March last year, the Congress had bagged 17 seats in the 40-member House, falling short of the majority figure by four seats.

The BJP, which got 14 seats, formed the government in alliance with Goa Forward Party and MGP, both of which had secured three seats each. Three Independents also went with the BJP.

The BJP-led government in Goa is headed by Manohar Parrikar, who is currently undergoing treatment in the US for his pancreatic ailment.

Meanwhile, former deputy chief minister of Bihar and leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also said that he will meet the Governor.

"I will meet Honourable Governor of Bihar along with MLAs as we are single largest party of Bihar," he said in a tweet.

In the 243-seat Bihar Assembly, the RJD has 80 seats, the JD(U) 71 and the Congress 27. The BJP has 53 MLAs.

"We are not only a single largest party but a single largest block of pre-poll alliance in Bihar. Then why should we not be called to form a government in Bihar?," he said in another tweet.

Addressing press conference, Yadav said that they will demand the dissolution of current government and they be invited to form the government.

Earlier in the day, addressing a gathering in Raipur, Rahul Gandhi said even the judiciary was being suppressed and threatened.

The Constitution is under "severe attack" and an atmosphere of fear prevailed in the country, Congress president said, likening the situation to Pakistan and some African countries under "dictatorship".

"One after another, you can see every democratic institution in the country, like the MPs, MLAs, the press, and the Planning Commission...the RSS is trying to induct its people," the 47-year-old Congress leader said.

All these institutions collectively form the voice of the country and the RSS and the BJP are trying to suppress these voices, he claimed.
