Karnataka unit of Congress today passed a resolution authorising party president Sonia Gandhi to choose its office bearers and executive committee.

At a meeting here, senior party leader CK Jaffer moved a  resolution, entrusting the responsibility of naming office bearers to Sonia Gandhi, which was endorsed by several leaders including opposition leader in the assembly, Siddaramaiah. The meeting also adopted a resolution congratulating her on being elected as party President for the fourth successive term, Janana Desikan, returning officer for the election told reporters after the meeting.The meeting earlier witnessed heated arguments with MysoreMP H Vishwanath protesting he was not invited to the dais.    Several workers complained that the election of PCC members was not held properly.KPCC president RV Deshpande, working president DK  Shivakumar, Union minister for state for railways KH Muniyappa and former minister Dr G Parameswara, one of the aspirants for the PCC job were present on the occasion.In another development Congress leaders from the Lingayat community met under the leadership of Shamanur Shivashankarappa, MLA and an educationist and demanded that the PCC chief post be given to a leader of their community.However, Shivashankarappa said they would accept whoever wasappointed by the Congress high command.
