An FIR has been filed against Karnataka BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa after a complaint by JD(S) MLA's Naganagouda Kandkur's son Sharanagouda for allegedly trying to lure him to switch over to BJP through money and ministerial position. The FIR has been lodged by the Raichur district police under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The complaint has also been filed against two BJP MLAs Preetham Gowda from Hassan and Shivanagouda Naik from Devadurga, Yeddyurappa's adviser and a former journalist MB Maramkal.

According to the reports, Sharangouda had recorded the 80-minute long conversation between him and Yeddyurappa where the BJP leader tried him to woo and switch over sides to BJP. In the FIR, Sharangouda had alleged that he was threatened to leave his party and join BJP otherwise they would finish the political life of his father who is an MLA and represents Karnataka's Gurumitkal constituency. Sharangouda had submitted the 80-minute long audio clip to the police on the basis of which the FIR was lodged.

Following Sharangouda's complaint, the accused have also been booked under IPC sections 506 for criminal intimidation and 120(B) for criminal conspiracy. Meanwhile, media reports suggest that the FIR in the case against the accused might be transferred to the Special Investigating Team (SIT) as Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy is monitoring the developments.

Speaking on the matter, Karnataka Congress' leader HC Yogish has said that why they're (BJP leaders) scared of the SIT? He said that they should believe in probe & face consequences. He also mentioned that they have heard Yeddyurappa may raise Rs 5,000 - 10,000 per vote to come back to power as for one MLA, he is ready to give Rs 10 crore.

On the other side, the BJP has termed the incident as a case of political vendetta and said that the accused leaders might approach the Karnataka High Court to seek quashing of the FIR.
