In his complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner, Maland has accused that the aforementioned BJP leaders had said in a press statement that state Congress president Dinesh Gundarao had insulted the "Vokkaliga community and their Natha Parampara" by insulting the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath In a reactionary statement to the Unnao rape case, Gundarao had earlier said that if Adityanath enters Karnataka, he should be greeted with slippers. The press statement by the BJP leaders was a response to that.

Karnataka Pragathi Paravedik, which identifies itself as a progressive party, demanded that a complaint under sections 295A and 505 of the IPC should be filed against the leaders for creating "disturbance to public peace and tranquility and also to polarize votes on the basis of caste and religion.

"There was no condemnation of the rapes, while they were simply trying to divide us based on caste. These things should not be tolerated," said Malnad.
