"Kanhaiya's father Jayshankar is no more. Red salute to a dedicated staunch communist and a brave father. Our condolences," said Prakash Reddy in a Facebook post.

According to reports, last month, Kanhaiya's father was admitted to the hospital in Begusarai in Bihar. It also said that Kanhaiya's father was paralysed and confined to this room.

After Kanhaiya's arrest, his father, who was a farmer, had said his son was being framed in the case for opposing Hindutva politics.

"My son has been part of so many campaigns against the BJP government, be it on fellowships or suicide of a Dalit student in Hyderabad university. He is being victimised for his opposition to Hindutva politics," he had said.
