Kamal Nath should have resigned after he came to know about 2G scam: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra on Saturday said that if Congress leader Kamal Nath was aware of the 2G scam beforehand, he should have resigned there and then. "The claims that Vinod Rai (former CAG) has made in the interview, and the way Congress had raised questions on CAG report, makes Rai's stand clear on the issue. It has been the same throughout, but if Kamal Nath knew about what was going on, why was he quite then. He should have resigned there and then from his post. He is trying to take a higher moral ground now," said Patra.

Former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India had alleged that the erstwhile Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath had warned the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against the developing scams. Kamal Nath had also later accepted that he had written a letter to Dr. Singh saying, "I had a doubt that is why I wrote a letter to the prime minister. He did not know the gravity of the matter but it wasn't a confidential letter."

Rai had also alleged that three former Congress Members of Parliament had put pressure on him to keep Dr Singh's name out of the 2G scam report. He also alleged that contrary to reports, former PM Manmohan Singh was well aware of the impending scam. According to Rai, the three former MPs - Sanjay Nirupam, Ashwini Kumar and Sandeep Dikshit - pressurized him to keep the former prime minister's name out of the report despite the then Telecom Minister A Raja, the prime accused in the 2G scam, keeping him in the loop over each decision that was taken.
