Bungalow that meets his demand was found in Rajaji Marg

NEW DELHI:  10 Rajaji Marg, New Delhi, is probably going to be the next address of outgoing President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

With barely 20 days left for his term to come to an end, the Ministry of Urban Development (MUD)has zeroed in on the Rajaji Marg bungalow and the renovation work is likely to begin shortly.

The MUD had earlier provisioned bungalows at 31 Aurangzeb Road and 7, Tughlaq Road for the President. But it was the demand for a separate library that put the MUD officials in a fix.

Keeping in mind Kalam's voracious reading habits, MUD officials started hunting for a duplex, so that the upper part of the house can be converted into a library-cum-reading area.

But since not many such Type VIII bungalows are available in the Lutyen's Bungalow Zone (LBZ) area, the ministry has zeroed in on the duplex at 10, Rajaji Marg which at present accommodates two senior bureaucrats — Prasar Bharti CEO BS Lalli and Power Secretary Anil Razdan. Both the officials have been allotted new bungalows at Pandara Road.

Besides the interiors, the bungalow has to be readied with elaborate security requirements.
