Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said on Friday that justice has been given to the victim and her family in the December 16 gang-rape case.
"Justice was given to the girl and the family," Shinde told reporters while reacting to the death sentence given to the four rapists.
He said the death penalty will act as a deterrent in future cases.
"It passes on the message that if you commit this crime, this is the punishment you will get," he said.
"We had worked hard on the case and presented evidence, it will send out a strong message," he added.
