JNU administration warns of strict action after students disrupt semester registration process

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration on Friday stated  that it will take strict action against students who disrupted the semester registration process on Friday.

In a statement, the administration said that a group of students wearing 'masks on their faces' entered the Center for Information System in the Univesity, evicted the technical staff, switched off the power supply and 'made servers dysfunctional' to disrupt the registration process.

The incident happened at around 1 pm on Friday, JNU administration reported. 

The administration further went on to state that the students had breached the "boundaries of decency and discipline" by causing "damage to the academic interest of their fellow students."

"University will take strict disciplinary action against the agitators who have caused enormous hardship to thousands of students," JNU Registrar Pramod Kumar said. 

The incident comes against the backdrop of protests by JNU students against the recently implemented fee hike by the University administration and hostel manual.

The University announced that students should complete their semester registration for the winter session from January 1 with the fee hike.

The registration process for the winter semester commenced on January 1 and will continue till January 5.

Earlier, JNUSU had announced the boycott of the registration process till the rollback of the hiked fee.
