Three terrorists and a Kashmir police personnel were killed early Wednesday in firing in the valley.

Few paramilitary officers have also suffered injuries.

Tension gripped the city prompting the authorities to shut all school and educational institutions in Srinagar as a precautionary measure. Mobile internet too was snapped to avoid any rumor mongering and fake news. 

Sources said acting on the specific information about presence of high value target, security forces launched an operation in Fathe Kadal area in the wee hours of Wednesday. 

Police said three militants and a cop were killed.  Three CRPF soldiers were also injured in the incident. "It is a good success", Ravideep Sahi, inspector general of CRPF, told DNA.

When the forces were zeroing in on the target house, the hiding militants opened heavy volume of fire triggering a  fierce gunfight.

Unconfirmed reports said two militants and a cop  were killed in the encounter so far. However there was no word from the police so far.

The encounter comes a day after the curtains came down on the four phase Municipal polls in Jammu and Kashmir.

The encounter also comes two days after terrorists attacked a CRPF camp injuring two soldiers at Newa in District Pulwama of South Kashmir.
