Following the busting of a gang allegedly involved in the manufacture of adulterated saffron, the Jammu and Kashmir government today said it would amend the Saffron Act to make it more effective.

"The government will not tolerate adulteration of saffron and necessary amendments to the Saffron Act would be made to give more teeth to it," chief minister Omar Abdullah told a delegation of saffron growers who called on him in Pulwama district, 32km from Srinagar.

Last month, the state police had busted a gang involved in the manufacture and sale of fake saffron and booked three personsunder the Public Safety Act.
