Five terrorists have been killed in an ongoing encounter in Hanjin village of the Rajpora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district. The operation that started on Thursday is still going on. Five bodies have been recovered from the encounter site while security forces continue the search operation. 

Police said that among the slain are one district commander of proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba who has been identified as Nishaz Lone alias Khitab and one foreign militant. As per police, Nishaz was a district commander of the outfit. IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar termed the killing of five militants including Nishaz as a big success.

IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, confirmed the killing of terrorists said they turned down repeated surrender offers given to them by security forces.
 
A police officer added that a soldier identified as Hawaldar Kashi of 44 RR was also martyred in the encounter.

Mobile internet services have been shut in the Pulwama district.

In the last 4 days, three encounters have taken place in the Kashmir Valley. In total, 10 militants were killed in these three encounters. 

The incidents of violence have increased in the last few days especially after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's all Party meet with the leaders from Jammu and Kashmir. As many as six major attacks and encounters have taken place in the last few days. Three encounters and three attacks include the killing of a cop along with his wife and daughter by Jaish terrorists after entering their house in the Tral area of Pulwama District.

Another attack was when a grenade was lobbed by terrorists in Srinagar's Barbarshah area on Saturday afternoon. A civilian was killed in the attack while three others were injured in the same incident.

Another J&K policeman was killed outside his residence in the Nowgam area of Srinagar on June 23. 

The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been put on high alert after the Jammu's twin blast inside the Indian Air Force station. The case was handed over to the NIA. The Jammu and Kashmir Police DG suggested that in the initial investigation, it seems Lashkar is behind the attack. 

So far in 2021, 66 terrorists have been killed in various encounters in the Kashmir valley.
