Jihadi group opens business outlets in UAE to provide jobs to those evading arrest in Kerala: Intel report

An intelligence report has said that a Kerala group, with alleged ties to extremists in Kerala, has opened business outlets in the UAE to provide jobs to those fleeing India to evade arrest.

According to the report sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), this group has provided jobs to many with criminal backgrounds who are hiding in Gulf countries after evading arrest in Kerala.

The group has opened dozens of outlets in many parts of the UAE for the purpose. The report, accessed by Zee News, reveals that the group has a team of volunteers who target Indian expats of an economically weaker section of in the UAE and motivate them to convert to Islam. The also encourage recent converts to bring their relatives to the fold.

These new converts are also asked to collect funds in the name of Islamic 'Daawa' activities or invitation to Islam. People in Kerala are urged to visit religious outfit Sathya Sarani in Malappuram District's Manjeri town for further indoctrination and financial assistance.

Sathya Sarani is a Popular front of India (PFI)-controlled religious organisation which provide Islamic education to recent converts.

"We have inputs that one jihadi Group of Kerala is collecting Rs 3 crore in Qatar for managing the court cases of Muslims who participated in various protest in India. Their members in Qatar are also sending money in Kerala through Hawala Channels," a Home Ministry official said.

Kerala has the highest number of radicalised youth with over 54 people from the state having joined ISIS, according to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

"We are trying to ascertain How many jihadi elements with criminal background and those convicted are hiding in UAE and also who are the leaders in Kerala linked to their network," another official said.
