As per reports in Hindustan Times, the man – identified as Mohammad Shalik – was in a relationship with the girl for over a year. Police say that the girl invited the boy to meet her at Gumla town for the Ram Navami processions on Wednesday. Fearing trouble, the boy initially refused, but ended up visiting her on his Scooty.

While dropping the girl home, the boy was spotted by neighbours of the girl who surrounded him, tied him to a tree and assaulted him for hours.  The boy succumbed to his injuries on Thursday. Three people have been arrested and FIRs have been registered against unnamed people. The boy’s murder triggered tensions in Gumla town but police thwarted any violence by deploying hundreds of personnel. The situation was soon brought under control.

The boy’s father, Mohammad Minhaj, said two people came to his house on Wednesday night to tell him that his son was being beaten and was tied to a tree. The boy was then taken to Sadar hospital, and later referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences  in Ranchi but he died on the way.
