JDA suspends camp after locals protest against irregularities

Strong protests by the locals in Dholai area compelled the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) officials to suspend its patta (lease-deed) distribution camp for Vidhan Sabha Nagar area on Saturday.

Hundreds of protesters entered the premises of JDA at around 11 am on Saturday where the camp was being held and created a ruckus.

The JDA officials then had to ‘wind up’ the camp. It was the second consecutive day when the protesters had disrupted the proceedings of the camp. 

The protesters alleged that JDA was issuing illegal pattas to those who are not in the list of the society.

President of Vidhan Sabha Nagar Vikas Samiti, Bahadur Singh alleged that according to the old list of year 1994, there were 983 applicants in the society and now JDA was giving 259 more pattas.

Protesters also alleged that there were several flaws in the new map issued by the JDA.

People said that in the new map, locations of several houses have been changed and size of many plots decreased. The residents said that around 400 families have been living in the colony. As the size of many houses has been decreased in the new map of JDA, locals fear that they could face demolition in future. They demanded that before organising any camp, the JDA should conduct a fresh survey of the colony and ensure that residents don’t have to be displaced. 

Onkarmal Saini, commissioner of zone 8, said that JDA has stopped the camp and would forward the demands of the residents to the state government. “JDA has been issuing pattas according to the list provided by the government. We had to act according to that list only,” he said.
