Sharad Yadav, the sitting MP, will be seeking re-election from the constituency. Later, he told the media he is confident and sure of winning the seat again. "People supported and voted for me in the past and they would do the same this time again," he said.

Sharad Yadav is pitted against Rashtriya Janata Dal's Pappu Yadav, a well-known criminal-turned-politician.

The Yadav-dominated Madhepura falls in the flood-prone Kosi region of the state.
