Security forces have been put on high alert across Jammu region after four men hijacked a car in Pathankot area of Punjab.
Sources said a silver-coloured Innova taxi was hired from Jammu to Madhopur in Punjab by four people. When it reached Madhopur, the men asked the driver to stop as one of them was not feeling well. Sources said the people, who were carrying small bags, later took out a revolver, seized the taxi and fled from the spot.
Taxi driver Rajkumar later approached the police and narrated the ordeal. Police immediately lodged an FIR and a massive hunt was launched to track down the men and recover the vehicle
Later, an alert was sounded and security was beefed up across the Jammu region. Security forces are maintaining extra vigil to ensure security in the region. Close watch is being kept at the entry and exit points of Jammu. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu-Kathua range, BS Tuti said the incident happened in Punjab. "Whatever action is to be taken is being taken by Punjab police," he said. On sounding the alert, he said there is nothing special and it was a routine matter.
The incident brings back memories of the 2016 Pathankot terror attack when Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists hijacked a taxi and the car of a senior Punjab police officer before launching the attack on the Pathankot air base.
