Jammu attack: Four cops suspended

Heads have started rolling in the police department after Thursday’s terror attack even as a militant scare in Hiranagar and Srinagar sent the security forces into a tizzy on Saturday.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Hiranagar police station Raj Kumar Padha and two other police personnel were suspended while an special police official (SPO) was disengaged for dereliction of duty.

“Yes, we have suspended an SHO and two other cops for dereliction of duties. An SPO was also disengaged from the services,” Mohan Lal, superintendent of police, Kathua district, told dna.

The police are investigating why the police officials failed to react and engage the militants. 

Meanwhile, information from some locals about the possible sighting of the militants in combat dress in Dayalchek village sent the security forces into a tizzy. Massive combing operation was immediately launched  to track down the militants. However, no militant was spotted.

Panic also gripped Srinagar after gun shots were heard in Sanat Nagar-Rawalpora area on Saturday afternoon. Sources in the army said two motor-bike borne suspected militants opened fire when they were asked to stop. The road opening party (ROP) of the army  opened fire but they fled from the scene. A civilian was injured after hitting a glass when he tried to run towards a shop in panic. Security men immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search and combing operation.
