At least four terrorists have been killed in an encounter with security forces in a village in Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

One jawan has also been killed in the gun-battle. The encounter is still underway.

According to reports, the encounter started after Army and police personnel launched an operation on Wednesday evening.

This is the third major encounter between militants and security forces in North Kashmir in past week.

A day ago, a terrorist was shot dead by security forces in the encounter in Baramullah at Rafiabad.

The slain terrorist has been identified as Riyaz Ahmad of Brath Kalan, Sopore.

Earlier, in an attempt to smoke out the terrorists that were been hiding in the area, the Army used improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on the residence where the militants were believed to be hiding. An Army jawan was killed on Wednesday in the encounter between the security forces and the terrorists.
