Jailed Reddys take bath under trees

Quite opposite to their affluent lifestyle, former minister G Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law BV Srinivas Reddy, currently lodged at Central Prison in Chanchalguda, Hyderabad, are said to be taking bath under trees inside the jail premises.

However, the duo, which is in 'D' cell of fourth barrack, is using the toilet attached to the cell.

In another revelation, sources said that Janardhana and Srinivas had stashed some cash before CBI officials arrested them from their respective houses on September 4. While Janardhana managed to take `30,000, Srinivas pocketed `20,000 before the arrest.

The cash was found when they were strip-searched before their entry into the jail. The Reddys have purchased toothpaste, toothbrush, biscuits and other daily needs from the prison canteen.

The purchase, however, is made through tokens of three different denominations given to them by the jail officials. The cash found from the Reddys was deposited in prisoners property account.

Meanwhile, sources in CBI informed that the exact value of the items seized from the Reddys would be submitted before the court soon. The figure could not disclosed as the raids were still on, said the sources.

During the raid, CBI officials found most of the items in the Reddys' houses in Bellary, Bangalore and Tamil Nadu to be made of gold. Among other seized items, 45 gold necklaces studded with pearls, 610 diamond bangles, 300 diamond earrings, 1200 gold rings, a small pot of gold, golden plates and glasses were seized.

The puja room, kitchen, toilets and bathrooms were made of gold, sources said. In the Bellary house, officials found an idol of Lord Venkateshwara made of gold and a half-feet-high Padmavathi idol. There were other gold idols in the puja room. Even the bell weighing 1 kg was made of gold. Sources also said that the Reddys had the accounts in six different banks that are nationalised and gramin.The former minister and his brother-in-law had managed to carry some cash when CBI arrested them. Janardhana Reddy managed to take Rs30,000, while Srinivas Reddy pocketed Rs20,000.
