On the occasion of Retail Employees Day on Friday, ITM Business School, Kharghar's Retail Management and Marketing branch had organised an event whereinaround 20 colleges from Mumbai will be participating in a combination of academic and non-academic events.

They have aptly named it Barcode 3.0. The day-long activity began with a panel discussion. The chief guest for the day is Damodar Mall, chief executive officer of Reliance Retail Ltd. After inaugurating the event, signed copies of his recent bestseller, Super Marketwala: Secrets to Winning Consumer India.

This was followed by a panel discussion themed, 'The future of Indian Retail in this Dynamic and Challenging Environment'. Other panelists included Parthip Tyagarajan from Weddingsutra.com; Kumar Manish from HSBC; Kedar Mehta from TCS; Prabhakar Tiwari from CEAT tyres and Deepak Pillai from Nielson.

The colleges that participated are Sophia College for Women, KJ Somaiya, NMIMS, Welingkars, IBS Mumbai, Bharati Vidyapeeth, CIMR, Dr DY Patil University, SVKM, IMDR, SIES, IIT-B, ISM&M, NIFT and SIBM Pune. The participants from these colleges attended other events organised in the evening for fun.

Dance competitions and fashion shows were judged by personalities from the fashion industry. This was followed by a Live performance by well-known trio Abhijit-Aniket-Adil from the music industry.

Through these events students won cash prizes worth Rs37,500 and discount vouchers worth Rs1 lakh. "Such events not only help us understand more about our chosen subject, but also give us a fun way to approach it. It is also a good opportunity to meet students from other colleges who have chosen the same stream," says one of the participating students.
