BJP leader LK Advani on Saturday said his remark “Shining India” made ahead of the general elections in 2004, was wrongly translated. What he really meant was “Rising India,” he clarified.

Speaking at a leadership summit in Delhi, Advani said, “I made no claims about shining India. My claim was about rising India, which is the correct translation of Bharat Uday.” His mistake, he said, was to allow the “wrong” perception to linger.

“But I would like to tell my detractors, your wrong policies in the past seven years have created a glittering and glitzy India for a small section of super-rich, whereas the majority are living in villages,” Advani said.
