Sources within the party say, the current political situation and forging of a large Opposition unity and organisational elections will also be discussed at the meet. The meeting also attains significance because, at its last meeting, the body had unanimously asked Sonia Gandhi, Party President, to hand over the baton to son Rahul.

Party insiders say it is but natural to revisit implementation and actions taken on the decisions at the last meeting. Therefore, members that included former PM Manmohan Singh, senior leaders AK Antony, and Ghulam Nabi Azad may pressure Rahul to take over party reins.

Party leaders say it will be befitting to elevate Rahul as the Congress President as a birthday gift on June 19.
