It’s party hoppers vs party poopers this year-end in Ahmedabad

It happens at regular intervals, but never before has a stand-off between party-hoppers and party-poopers been so intense in Ahmedabad.

This year-end, besides the rural police and traffic cops who're already gearing up for strict vigil, city cops too have announced their bandobast for New Year's eve.

And each section of the force has a clear-cut role to play. While the rural police will keep an eye on the farmhouses in and around the city, 450 traffic cops will be on the prowl with breathe analysers on CG Road, Dharnidhar Derasar in Paldi and SG Highway, and some 300 city cops, along with dozens of senior officers, will be standing guard at CG road, SG Highway and all potential party venues.

The police have focused their bandobast on zone one, which comprises areas such as Satellite, Vastrapur, Vejalpur, Ghatlodia, Navrangpura, Naranpura and Ellisbridge, among others.

"We have around 35 to 40 police (checking) points in zone one, where most of the party venues are located. We will be focusing on these areas to tackle the menace of miscreants and drunkards, and to prevent any kind of nuisance during the celebrations," said Dinesh Parmar, deputy commissioner of police, police control room.

There will be six assistant commissioners of police, ten inspectors and 16 sub inspectors, along with over 300 staff of zone one, deployed for December 31 celebrations alone. Also, two companies of the State Reserve Police (SRP), along with one company of women police, will be deputed for the task. Police said 16 police control room (PCR) vehicles and four quick response teams (QRTs) will be prowling zone one, to thwart any possible untoward incidents.
