Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, described as inspiring their visit to the Sabarmati Ashram, and Mahatma Gandhi as one of the greatest prophets of humanity.

Accompanied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Israeli PM and his wife paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, after completing the 8-km roadshow from the airport to ashram this morning. Thousands of people had lined up along the route of the roadshow, but they were disappointed at not being able to catch a glimpse of the leaders.

The high-profile guests spent about 20 minutes at the ashram. "An inspiring visit to the hearth of one of humanity's great prophets of inspiration - Mahatma Gandhi," Benjamin and Sara Netanyahu wrote in the visitor's log book at the Ashram, which completed 100 years of its existence in 2017. The Israeli Prime Minister and his wife visited Hriday Kunj, Mahatma Gandhi's home when he used to live at the ashram. They also tried their hands at spinning the charkha, and posed for photographs.
