Though no official in the CBI was willing to confirm the development, sources said that Verma had recovered completely from the hipbone injury he had suffered at his home in July this year and was back at work on the case.

On July 13, 2012, the Gujarat high court had ordered the state government to relieve Verma for four months to allow the IPS officer to join the CBI for the investigation in the Ishrat encounter case.

However, Verma had to be hospitalized the following day when he fractured his hipbone during an accident at home. Due to his injury, Verma was unable to assist the CBI in the investigation of the Ishrat case though the probe agency was preoccupied with the Tulsi Prajapati fake encounter case during this period.
