Sanjay Joshi's possible return to the fold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised speculations about the reducing stature of the chief minister Narendra Modi and his mentor LK Advani at the national level.

Sanjay Joshi, former national general secretary (organisation) of the BJP, is believed to be not in the good books of Modi. A few weeks ago, BJP president Nitin Gadkari announced the return of Uma Bharti who left the party by revolting against Advani and other senior party leaders. She has been taken back to strengthen the national cadre of BJP in Delhi.

If sources within the party are to be believed, Gadkari and other senior leaders are for Joshi's return to active politics. He was sidelined after a controversial sex CD expose.

Joshi, who also handled the state BJP as general secretary (organisation) of Gujarat said he has a good chunk of followers.

Highly-placed party sources said, "Joshi's comeback to the party is imminent as he is in contact with Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha respectively. The formal announcement will be made soon and he is likely to be assigned either Uttarakhand or Uttar Pradesh."

Though he was out of active politics, Joshi was in regular touch with leaders of the Gujarat BJP, both within the Modi camp and anti-Modi camp. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had never opposed Joshi's return as he is an RSS loyalist since the beginning of his political career.

Sources also claimed that Modi has already been criticised within the party after the BJP did not do well in the West Bengal and Assam polls where he conducted public rallies.

The party had expected that Modi's oratory would catch the attention of the people and get converted into votes for the BJP. Uma Bharti is also seen within the party as a strong orator and face of active Hindutva. However, sources said she is not a competitor of Modi.
