The total irrigated area in Maharashtra increased from 24.48 lakh hectare in 2012-13 to 32.60 lakh hectare in 2013-14, according to the Economic Survey tabled in the state legislature on Wednesday.

The number of completed and ongoing irrigation projects stood at 3,911. Of these 105 are major, 299 medium and 3,507 of minor scale, it said.

The number of projects like percolation tanks and lift irrigation stood at over 75,000.

Actual utilisation during 2013-14 was 21.42 lakh hectare for irrigation projects of Water Resources Department, the survey added.
