Decorps was greeted by Justice CK Thakker, former judge of the Supreme Court, who was also the chief guest at the function.

The event began with a welcome speech by Dhiresh Shah, president of AINA and NAG. Shah addressed the members of the associations thus: “I am very grateful that our association is growing and it can organize such a function for the international president.” He also handed over to Jean Paul Decorps a pearl garland, shawl and a memento.

The notaries have come on one platform and have formed their association a couple of years back. Their reason for getting united was to resolve their problems and legal issues that directly affect the public. It was the maiden visit of the president of the international body to the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Jean Decorps said, “The purpose of our Union is to exchange members as well as ideas of notaries of the world.”

He also talked about the functions and responsibilities of notaries in France and urged his Indian counterparts to join the International Union of Notaries.

Accompanying Decorps from France was Dominique Savourie, vice-president of the International Co-operation Commission, who was also felicitated by the members of the notary association.

Savourie said: “It is an important mission to come here and talk to you. We want to develop co-operation with the Indian Notary Chamber.”
