The union ministry of home affairs (MHA) has issued a terror alert for Ahmedabad during the year-end celebrations.

The alert, which is based on inputs by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), says terrorists of Lashkar-e-Toiba(LeT) outfit could strike during the party season. IB sources in Gujarat confirmed that such an alert had been issued.

The Ahmedabad police were on their toes immediately after they received the input. A senior officer, who didn’t want to be named, told DNA that a home-to-home patrolling has been started in the city.

According to the MHA alert, four people had already taken their positions in Ahmedabad and Mumbai and had planned a terror attack on Christmas and the party season thereafter.

Sources familiar with the development said that the IB sleuths had managed to intercept a call revealing the plans for attacks on Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Sources said that there is a specific input that the terrorists have taken their positions.

The MHA has advised for intensive patrolling in the city, as there is only a few days left for Christmas. Accordingly, the police started the patrolling on Tuesday evening.

The IB input said that the miscreants had entered the city through the roadway from Kashmir. “They could have taken the training in Kashmir or are Kashmir-based terrorists, but they could be in the city now,” a city police source said. The MHA in its advice to the Gujarat police has said that the terrorists could attack malls, multiplexes and marketplaces. “There is a possibility of an imminent attack on the city,” a source said.
