Security forces have been directed to remain alert this festive season to avoid communal clashes. Intelligence agencies have written to all the states to beef up security arrangements in light of prevailing tense communal situation.

The note accessed by DNA reads, "The overall Hindu-Muslim communal scenario has remained strained in several states this year on account of variety of incidents. Keeping this in mind, the concerned officers be advised to promptly communicate any information likely to impact adversely upon law and order situation."

It further pointed out that navratri and Durga puja are being celebrated across the country, attracting large gatherings. "In the past, provocative songs, loud music, sprinkling colours on Musilm community, mosques or dargas, idols and pandals have acted as triggers," the note stated.

Similarly, raising provocative slogans in mixed population areas, slowing down processions in Hindu-dominated areas during tazias on Muharram, to be observed on October, have often become flash points of communal confrontation.

Citing that situation are many areas across the country is communally charged up, the security forces needs to be utmost alert.
