Indore: Woman rejects proposal, jilted man rapes 1-year-old, molests her sister

In a shocking case, a man allegedly raped a baby girl after her mother rejected his proposal.

The incident, which happened in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, came to light after woman’s elder daughter gave the statement. The four-year-old was also molested by the accused.

According to an HT report, the 20-year-old accused was a distant relative of the family. 

The report also quoted a senior official, who said that the man had decided to rape the woman after he started avoiding him. But when he reached her house, the woman was not at her place. To take ‘revenge’ over his rejection, the jilted man instead raped her 1-year-old daughter and molested four-year-old sister during his second visit at night. 

A case of rape and sexual harassment has been registered against the accused under the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act.

Earlier, a man, accused of raping a nine-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh's Rehli, was sentenced to death within 46 days of the incident. The incident took place on May 21, when the accused lured the girl and took her to a nearby temple and raped her. 

However, the accused fled when the victim's relatives rushed to the spot upon hearing her crying for help.

A case was registered and within 72 hours, it was presented before the Session Court.

According to prosecutor P L Rawat, the trial went on for 10 days, in which DNA report confirming the rape was submitted.

"The trial went on for 10 days. DNA report was submitted which confirmed the rape."

In April, the Union Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved an ordinance allowing courts to pronounce the death penalty for those convicted of raping children below the age of 12.
