IT experts claim that there are close 50 companies which are producing apps.
Few might be aware that recently launched popular mobile apps including the Citizen Cop from MP Police, Anti Ragging app from district administration and ibus app to be launched shortly--actually have been developed by IT firms engaged in mobile applications' development in the city.
Indore known to be a hub for commerce and industry -is taking rapid strides for becoming a centre of mobile application developers.
IT experts claim that there are close to 50 companies which are producing mobile apps and annual turnover of this sector has reached Rs 100 mark in Indore.
Rakesh Jain owner of one such firm -Inforcrats Web Solutions, which recently launched Citizen Cop with Indore Police, said that mobile applications offer endless potential amid rapid surge in usage of mobile phones. He accepted of late Indore has emerged as centre for mobile app developers.
"Citizen Cop has transformed the image of Indore police completely," he claimed adding that people are normally left amazed when they use 'help me' option in the app and get a call back from the police within 10 minutes.
Nilesh Maheshwari--the founder of MobileMonday (MoMo) -- open community platform of mobile industry visionaries and developers said that till the year 2006-07, the IT sector was not in existence in Indore. Around this time the foundation for Impetus was laid and soon others like Astute, Suvi and Web Dunia came to existence.
Maheshwari who is also the CEO of IT company eMorphis, said that first kind of developers are consumer centric who develop mobile games for individuals while the second type of companies develop customised softwares for corporate clients. eMorphis which falls in the second category, is offering services to around a dozen companies in US including the ones engaged in sectors such as insurance, furniture and healthcare.
Experts from the sector also claim that burgeoning infrastructure cost being major constraints for small scale IT firms in IT hubs like Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad etc, the smaller players are turning towards tier II and III cities like Indore for establishing ventures.
