COIMBATORE: A man from Indore created a new world record on Sunday by singing continuously for 101 hours and etched his name in history.

Deepak Gupta, who started his marathon non-stop singing at 9 am on November 15,  broke the record of 54 hours 41 minutes of non-stop singing and entered the Guinness Book on Friday.

The previous record was held by a German singer.

The 28-year-old finished his marathon singing at 2 pm on Sunday, singing 1,070 songs.

In the process, Gupta also broke another record by Indore girl Akanksha, who sang non-stop for 61 hours some 10 days ago.

Gupta's record breaking feat was videographed and would be duly sent to all record books, organisers said.

Meanwhile according to reports from Indore, as Deepak Gupta completed his marathon performance in Coimbatore, an atmosphere of happiness engulfed the entire Visarjan Ashram there where his parents live.

A huge crowd of people gathered at the ashram cheered as Deepak completed 101 hours of performance and congratulated Deepak's parents.

"The moment was full of excitement and we were also singing bhajans and `Navkar Mantra' to give power to Deepak for achieving the feat," Deepak's father Kishore Gupta said.

"Since the age of 12 Deepak has a passion for music and his regular practice of yoga and chanting Navkar Mantra has certainly helped him in achieving this milestone," he said.

Deepak is a member of the child singer, Palak Mucchal's group and the idea of singing for 101 hours to make a record was rooted after Muchhal's performance in Coimbatore recently.

"Initially we were not aware of the Deepak's plan and he informed us on November 14 (children's day) only to seek blessings for achieving the record," Kiran, the proud mother of Deepak, said.

Besides, Deepak, two other singers, Akansha Jachak of Indore (61 hours) and Sania Sayyed of Khandwa (64 hours) gave a record-breaking singing performance recently.
