The city witnessed a rainfall of 31.4 mm on Saturday and 61.6 mm in last 24 hours taking the total rainfall for this monsoon season to 1404.8 mm.
The rainfall in past two days brought down the temperature by three degree Celsius. However, there was no relief from humidity as it remained on the maximum side.
According to meteorological department the rainfall recorded from Saturday 8.30 am to 5.30 pm was 31.4 mm. The maximum temperature recorded on Saturday was 26.5 degree Celsius which was three degree less than normal. However, the minimum temperature was 21.4 degree Celsius which was normal.
Humidity was 100 per cent on Saturday morning and reduced to 97% by the evening.
Although the rainfall brought relief to denizens from heat and humidity, it also added to their woes as traffic was hit at several areas due to water logging. Water accumulated on sides of major and link roads including AB Road.
The sudden heavy downpour on Saturday evening created problem for the people and many were left drenched on the roads.
Commuters moved through the inundated roads and traffic jam resulted in several areas. But water was receded after some time and vehicles moved with ease again.
Most of the ponds and reservoirs of the district are full to their capacity. Municipal Corporation carried out cleaning work to remove water logging in different parts of the city. Similar rainfall was reported from other parts of the state facing problems due to excessive rainfall this season.
