The police on Sunday afternoon made 16 petty gamblers walk through Sadar Bazaar area after tying them up with a rope to one another.

The persons identified as Jagdish, Kamlesh, Mukesh , Rahul, Vijay, Nilesh, Hemendra, Harjit, Afzal, Devkaran, Rajesh, Ajay, Zaqir, Gaurav, Balkishan and Appu were arrested when they were playing cards and placing bets at a house in Secundarabad Colony around 4.30 pm on Saturday.
The accused were booked under Gambling Act at Sadar Bazaar police station.

Though the accused could have been granted bail at the police station itself for the crime, they were denied the same for unknown reason.

Interestingly, none of these accused is a hardcore criminal but even then they were all tied up with a rope to one another and taken to the court.

This action by police was in stark contrast to the treatment it had meted out to a local leader accused of flaring up communal tension.

In August, the police had registered a case of disturbing communal atmosphere against a leader associated with a saffron outfit in Chandan Nagar area but had failed to arrest him for long. Later, the leader himself reached the Chandan Nagar police station where he was given a VIP treatmet .
After his formal arrest, police took him to court in a 'respectful' manner.

In another case, a notorious criminal involved in a number of land grabbing cases was also given a 'respectful' treatment at Heera Nagar police station owing to his proximity to a local MLA when a family had complained against him a few months back.
