PHED additional chief secretary JC Mohanty told media that as per the policy, buildings having ground plus two stories were included in multi-storey category and water connection were not provided. But now as per the new guidelines, PHED water would be made available to lakhs of residents in the states.

As per the Urban Improvement Trust building bylaws 2013 and Jaipur City bylaws 2010, buildings more than 15 metres high were considered multi-storey buildings and the residents in such buildings could not get water connections. But as per the new guidelines, residents of building up to 15 metres high could get water connections from PHED.

After the orders by the state government, now consumers could directly apply for connection at PHED sub-division offices. However, the consumers living in buildings up to 15 metres tall would have to pay additional levy for the new connection.

Jaipur Circle additional chief engineer Ashok Garg told DNA that the department had given a proposal to the state government that instead of considering buildings as multi-storey on the basis of G+2 or G+3 category, buildings should be categorized as up to 15 metres tall and individual water connections should be issued so that a solution to separate tariff problem could be found.

Garg also said that individual consumers would have to pay an amount at the rate of Rs45 per square metre to the department. For buildings more than this height, Rs42 per square metre need to be paid at the time of applying for connections. For ground plus three consumers, PHED would be providing connection at the ground floor only.
