#IndiaKaDNA conclave: BJP will form the government in Maharashtra; Fadnavis will be the CM: Prakash Javadekar

The Bharatiya Janata Party will form the government in Maharashtra, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has said.

Speaking at the Zee News' #IndiaKaDNA conclave on Friday, Javadekar said that Devendra Fadnavis will indeed be the Chief Minister of Maharashtra adding that the state will have a coalition government of BJP and Shiv Sena.

On being asked when the parties will reach an outcome, he said it will 'take time'.

In 2014, the two parties had contested the election separately but none of them were able to reach the majority mark of 245. However, BJP being the single largest party with 122 MLAs in the 288-member assembly initially formed a minority government but later got Shiv Sena's support.

Both parties are currently engaged in a power-tussle as Shiv Sena, which won 56 seats in the elections, is demanding government formation under 50:50 formula. which means Maharashtra will have two Chief Ministers for 2.5 years each.

The BJP, which emerged as the single-largest party in the state by winning 105 seats, has maintained that only Devendra Fadnavis will be Maharashtra CM for the next five years.

The BJP and Shiv Sena contested the recently-held Maharashtra assembly elections together and won 105 and 56 seats, respectively. But the Shiv Sena's demand of "50-50 formula" for power-sharing has delayed the government formation.
