India’s participation in the London Olympics also marks 112 years of its participation in the prestigious mega-sporting event.

The journey that began at the Paris Olympics in 1900 has seen various ups and downs including the latest best ever medals haul at the Games.

1 India won six medals including two silver and four bronze medals in London Olympic Games 2012 and by far this is the best performance by India in terms of number of medals won at any single Olympic games. India has won 11 medals including eight Golds in Hockey, the nation’s national game. However, it is unfortunate in the extreme that the country has failed to win a single medal from the past 28 years since 1984. The medal drought in hockey has persisted in the just concluded London Olympics.
2 Mary Kom becomes the first women to win a medal at women's boxing in the Olympic Games at London Olympics 2012. Beijing Gold medalist Shooter Abhinav Bindra’s failure to repeat his performance at the London Olympics Games dashed an entire nation’s hopes.
3 Sushil Kumar became the first Indian to win back-to-back individual medals at London Olympics 2012. India has never won medal in Judo, Rowling and Table Tennis.
4 Saina Nehwal became the first Indian to win a medal in Badminton at the Olympics at London Olympics 2012. India’s worst performances at Olympic Games after Independence with no medals won  are during the following years:
