India, Nepal to share information on cross-border crimes

India and Nepal have agreed on sharing information on cross-border criminal activities and have decided to swap criminals wanted by either country, officials said on Saturday.

India and Nepal have agreed on sharing information on cross-border criminal activities and have decided to swap criminals wanted by either country, officials said on Saturday.
    
A high-level meeting of the coordination committee, comprising members from both the countries held at Bhairahwa in Nepal on Friday, decided to help each other in arresting the most wanted criminals, they said.
    
District magistrate of Maharajganj V K Srivastava said there would be identification of citizenship during cross-border movement to strengthen internal security for both countries.
    
Indian officers also assured help in tracking down the members of Terai armed groups.

While SP of Maharajganj V K Sekher said that border pass would resolve problems due to new transit arrangements, chief district officer Rupendehi Nepal Tarakant Jha said the practice of  criminals crossing the border after committing crimes would be stopped at any cost.
    
Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) officer Lalit Kumar said that both the countries would have to maintain special vigil on illegal routes and insisted that Nepal should try to stop movement of persons through unauthorised routes.
   
Senior officials from the Home Ministry, Customs, Army, SSB, immigration and other departments were part of the meeting, the sources said.
