India administers over 1.25 crore vaccine doses in single day, crosses cumulative 65 crore mark

India administered the highest single-day dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday, the last day of the month of August. On August 31, India administered 1.25 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines, the highest since the vaccination drive began on January 16 this year. 

Praising the hard work of COVID-19 warriors, Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya lauded the entire country for the achievement of more than one crore doses being administered for the second day within a span of five days. "Another milestone achieved in the world's largest vaccination drive under PM @NarendraModi Ji. 50 crore people received their first #COVID19 vaccine dose," he tweeted.

Till August the cumulative vaccination doses administered in the country have crossed the 65 crore mark, with 18.12 crore doses administered in August and 13.45 crore in July, official data revealed. On Tuesday, India also crossed another mark, cumulative 50 crores first-dose coverage.

For the first time in August, the daily average vaccination was 58.46 lakh, crossing the 50 lakh mark. Official sources said that on average 74.09 lakh vaccine doses have been administered daily in India in the last week. India administered 17 crore vaccine shots in the shortest period of 114 days which is a world record.

In April, the average daily vaccination was 29.96 lakh, which dropped to 19.69 lakh in May due to a supply shortage. As manufacturers began ramping up production, June and July saw, respectively, 39.89 lakh and 43.41 average daily jabs.

Uttar Pradesh alone has administered 7.20 crore vaccine doses till August 31.
