"The days of the mother-son government are over. I sent Smriti Irani here not to increase the problems for Rahul Gandhi, but to reduce the problems of the people of Amethi," Modi said at a rally here. "In the last 40 years, this family has destroyed the dreams of three generations, I am here to save the future generations," the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said, referring to the Gandhi family.

The rally was held on the last day of campaigning in Amethi, which votes May 7.

Amethi, a traditional stronghold of the Gandhi family from where Rahul Gandhi is an incumbent parliamentarian, is witnessing a three-cornered contest between the Congress vice president, the BJP's Smriti Irani, and Aam Aadmi Party's Kumar Vishwas.
