As the COVID-19 cases surge at a tremendous rate, medical staff at the frontlines of the fight against coronavirus are overworked and stressed. In such trying times, a nursing officer at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, has put on a brave face by requesting the hospital administration to include him in the medical team involved in treating COVID-19 infected persons.

The officer, Kanishk Yadav wrote a letter to the administration requesting them to depute him at the COVID-19 ward at Trauma Centre.

"I have worked in the ICU setting for more than seven years and competent to handle all emergency situations," he wrote in the letter.

He offered to help in counselling COVID-19 patients and team members suffering from depression.

"Secondly, as a counsellor I can charge not only my team member but also COVID-19 positive patients who may be in depression," Kanishk said.

He also urged people to follow social distancing to eliminate the threat of coronavirus. "People should follow social distancing norms to beat the coronavirus threat," he added.

With the number of COVID-19 cases likely to increase in the coming days, the health care facilities will be overburdened with burgeoning caseloads, mounting the pressure on doctors, nurses and other health care workers. At such a time of crisis, a need for young, and willing doctors like Kanish Yadav is needed to provide relief to the health care professionals associated with tackling patients infected with the virus.
