In an important piece of news for all vehicle owners, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said that the FASTag registration deadline will not be extended further. It is advised that vehicle owners should immediately adopt the e-payment facility.

He had said that the FASTag registration deadline was pushed two-three times before and now it will not be extended further. Gadkari made these statements while responding to a query about FASTags at the Nagpur airport.

The FASTag registration has gone up to 90 percent on some routes and only 10 percent people are left. FASTag is also available on toll nakas and people should purchase and use it for seamless traffic, he said.

There are currently more than 2.54 crore FASTag users across the country. It is reported that FASTag accounts for 80 percent of the total toll collection on the national highway. Recently, the daily toll collection through FASTag crossed Rs 89 crores.

The passengers should note that payments at the toll plaza via FASTag will become mandatory from February 15, 2021.

FASTags facilitate electronic payment of fees at toll plazas. Introduced in 2016, the compulsory use of these tags will help vehicles pass without any hitch through the toll plazas, preventing long queues.
