Dispute between Narendra Giri and Anand Giri came to light after Baghambari Math's 80 feet width and 120 feet high Gaushala land lease was cancelled.
What led to the death of Mahant Narendra Giri, the President of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad is something the investigators are looking into. However, one suspected cause relating to his unnatural death that investigators are not ruling out is the immense wealth of the Baghambari Math which may have led to his death.
Maths not just receive huge donations from devotees but also have huge immovable properties. This includes acres of land for farming, schools, ashrams and many such properties whose market price at present would be in crores. Presently, Baghambari Math has more than 80 bighas of farmland in Prayagraj and Kaushambi where rice, wheat and vegetables are cultivated.
However, there is no Aadhaar card issued in the name of Baghambari Gaddi Math. Late Mahant Narendra Giri had once said that food grains cultivated in the farmland of the Math are mostly used for the operations of the Math.
It is said that the Baghambari Gaddi Math and Niranjani Akhada have immense wealth under their possession. To control this huge wealth, there have been bitter fights between the saints. From news of selling acres of Math and Akhada lands to buying of houses and lands in the name of people working there or their relatives have led to huge controversies.
Due to property disputes, two saints of the Niranjani Akhada Math have died under mysterious circumstances in the past also.
Cause of dispute between Mahant Narendra Giri and his disciple
As per reports, the dispute between Late Mahant Narendra Giri and his disciple Yog Guru Anand Giri started in May this year. This dispute came into the forefront after the Baghambari Math's 80 feet width and 120 feet high Gaushala land's lease was cancelled.
The land leased out on the name of Anand Giri was for a proposed petrol pump. But Mahant Narendra Giri cancelled the lease on the pretext that a petrol pump could not run there.
Narendra Giri was of the opinion that if a market could be brought up in that land then the revenue of Math would increase. Anand Giri accused his guru of wanting to sell off the land and hence cancelled the lease.
This led to a big dispute and Anand Giri was expelled from Math.
Earlier land disputes
It is said that earlier seven bigha land of the Baghambari Gaddi Math was sold off at 40 crore rupees.
Land of Niranjani Akhada in Manda and Rae Barelli worth crores being sold off has also led to disputes in the past.
